Baby Care 101 Class Description:

This class covers everything you need to know to empower yourself and help your baby thrive in their first year of life. Utilizing evidence based information, we provide essential knowledge and techniques as we cover topics including breast and bottle feeding, soothing, bathing, diapering, sleep, car seat safety, baby massage, baby wearing, health and wellness, and so much more!  We know sleep is a sensitive subject, so we also discuss infant sleep states and sleeping behaviors.  Significant time is also spent on mastering Dr. Harvey Karp's "Happiest Baby on the Block" soothing techniques. By learning these five S's you will understand the most effective ways to comfort and sooth their baby, minimize crying and maximize everyone's sleep. We encourage both parents to attend.

Introduction to Breastfeeding Class Description:

Producing breast milk is natural, yet the art of latching the baby onto the breast is learned. This class is taught by Certified Lactation Consultants and provides clear, accurate breastfeeding information for the "soon-to-be" new mother.

We cover breastfeeding expectations, strategies for success and how to avoid complications. Topics include breastfeeding techniques, various nursing positions and comfort holds, maternal diet considerations, nipple care, leaking, tips for partner feedings, and the advantages of human milk over supplementation. Discussion includes the various breast pumps for purchase or rental. We answer all your questions, including the all-important one: "How do I know my baby is getting enough?"

INSTRUCTORS:

  • Corky Harvey MS, RN, IBCLC
  • Barb Zimmermann RN, BSN, IBCLC, CEIM

More Comments from New Parents:

"My husband and I had the pleasure of attending Barbara and Corky’s Baby 101 class today. It was terrific. We were a bit apprehensive about a four-hour Zoom session, particularly after other classes we’ve taken elsewhere, but this one was so well-done. Barbara and Corky are great teachers, warm people, and radiate deep expertise. They used the time really well and were extremely informative, while still being interactive. We learned so much and are incredibly grateful!" - 1st Time Parents To-Be Bethany & Steve

"I took your Baby Care 101 class today and it was great - much better than the Zoom hospital classes I've been taking! I found both the introductory breastfeeding and baby care classes to be so helpful and was impressed by how they engaged us on Zoom with Q&A and took care to show details up close to the screen so that we could have an experience that was like being in-person." -Nicole

"We took a 4 hour virtual 101 class with Corky and Barbara. They are both nurses and IBCLC certified so they really know their stuff. I found their presentation to be incredibly engaging (no small feat for being on Zoom) and evidence based. They were efficient and somehow managed to cover everything from swaddling, car seat basics, and soothing techniques to infant bathing. I even learned some super helpful tips for basic things I thought I knew, like putting on diaper and onesies. I am definitely going to take their breastfeeding class and am considering the virtual postpartum support group. The four hours was a little long but we are on the east coast so the evening classes during the week would have been a little too long. There is an option to take the class over two weekday evening days.  - Becca D.

"My husband and I took the Baby Care 101 Class and the Breastfeeding Class. Both were very informative and non-judgmental. The teachers were excellent and helpful. As a first time mom it was really helpful to take these classes and get as prepared as possible. I feel much more at ease and prepared for the baby!"   - Lynn T.

"My wife and I took their Intro to Breastfeeding and Baby Care 101 classes. They are so well worth your money. We felt like we had all the answers to the test when our daughter arrived. We had zero problems in getting her to breastfeed from day 1 and we owe it all to the Pump Station!" - Andrew S.
